We did the bioluminescense tour last night. We met the boat at the marina in town. First we headed to familiar Coronado Island for a sunset snorkle. It was Zac's first time snorkling. My mask kept filling with water and I had trouble finding my breath. I returned to shore disappointed and winded while the kids, Sam and Zac went further out. We had a dinner of guacamole, chips, fruit, and vacation peanut butter sandwiches.

Then we load the boat to go to our second destination, a place I thought would be waist deep to watch bioluminescense. When we got there we dropped anchor in the Sea of Cortez and were instructed that we could jump in and wait for total darkness. My first thought was that the kids would definitely not get in so I'd be safe from having to do this! Second thought, why did I sign up for this? Third, how long until this was over?

To my dismay the kids had their fins and masks on faster than ever and were asking us to hurry up so they could jump in off the side of the boat into the dark deep water.

First Sam then Dakota then me and Pearl and Zac. The water was warm and we started swimming. Sam had a flashlight and shinned it on the sea floor so we could see what was below.

When he turned it off it was completely dark and Pearl told me to look at my hands. There were sparkles everywhere! Sparkles bounced off our movement. The kids swam excitedly, mermaids in the magic.

Above us the milkway and below us. It was hard to believe we were there. Then Pearl said, "what's that? ".

Neon glowing pools started popping up all around us. Florescent puddles on the surface of the water. One, two, four, eight. Glow worms!!!

Laughing we were surrounded and all we could say over and over again was, "this is magical!"

Time passed quickly and the divers returned from their night dive to share with us stories of what they had seen. The energy on the boat was positive and inclusive. Flying fish were jumping and flashing iridescent blue. We bundled up in towels for the boat ride home in the dark.
